![]() Plex Media Player (and "Plex" from their site) is the only application that truly stutters. I have tried syncing and playing in Plex, I have tried playing a regular file copied from the server in VLC, I have tried everything. What could the issue be here? Lack of hardware acceleration, perhaps? You can clearly tell that something is stuttering when the media is playing, and how it's butter smooth when it's paused. Move window around while playing/pausing: Here are a few links that will make it easier to understand: I cannot find that option without going into TV mode, which makes me wonder if that's why I am having issues. And I did check the TV mode settings: Hardware encoding/acceleration is ENABLED. It does NOT appear to be an issue, when I turn on TV mode, however. It happens both in windowed mode, with the window maximized, and in full screen mode. The stuttering appears when I open a new tab in Chrome, switch tabs in Chrome, open a new program (that is not Chrome), move the Plex Media Player window around, or simply by hovering Plex Media Player's window, so the menu appears. Like going into Windows display settings and setting my refresh rate to 15 Hz. Like I'm dropping maybe 20% of my frames. When I play any type of media, I have noticed it feels like the FPS is really slow. Nothing ever stutters or bugs out, except for Plex Media Player or programs that for some reason are not hardware accelerated, so their rendering happens on the CPU instead of on the GPU. My desktop Windows 10 PC with latest drivers and Windows updates, has the following specs: Ryzen 3900X, RTX 3070, and 32GB RAM. Now that's out of the way, we can focus on the real issue. This is solely a software/program/client issue in Windows, that might be related to hardware acceleration (NOT to be confused with hardware accelerated transcoding). Nothing is being transcoded, nothing is acting weird. So, I'm having some stuttering issues, that are NOT related to my server or network. I know your logic makes a lot of sense but I prefer not to go this route, spend an hour configure everything just to uninstall it after, regardless the result. While playing from my Mac has no jitters at I understand what you are proposing but even if I choose to install the Mac Plex release and test it, I will never use it, that is why I built my NAS. Now that I payed close attention, the important part is the jittering does not occur always, some videos have it, some don't? Streaming from Google Chrome browser on my TV with Cast functionality has one small jitter. I encode all my videos with Handbrake, so all settings are identical for all movies. ![]() ![]() The funny part is that occurs only in the beginning of stream, on TV or maybe my eyes are getting used to? But is always at the exact same sequence, as you can see. I no jittering also when I play the movie directly on site, in my Safari browser. I attached the video filmed from my Mac (played with IINA from SMB share) and my TV (Plex) as comparison. Some update, for a moment I thought this is related to automatic quality adjustment, but is not. ![]()
